The Watcher process

Just for fun, these are a few shots of the process of painting The Watcher.
This is the initial thumbnail sketch. I did this while I sat and listened to the old Fayetteville Underground board explain to the artists why they were going to dissolve the whole organization.

Here it is blocked in on a piece of curved wood. I guess he's a green guy.

Now it's quite a bit further along. I gave it the spooky flashlight treatment. Yellow light, purple shadows, you know, the usually.

Throw in some darker outlines here and there and put those pupils.

Smeared on some black pastel to darken up the shadows and push the contrast.

Masked off the entire thing, made that background gradient with some black spray paint and then put in some final sharp highlights. Tah-daaahhh! It's a creepy, schizophrenic, two-faced, narcissistic, double-talking jerkwad face!
